Gurley Jones

T.Sgt. Gurley G. Jones, son of Mrs. John W. Jones of Ben Wheeler and brother of Pfc. Charles Frank Jones of Athens, died in England on February 8, the family was notified by the War Department last week. The news came as a severe shock to the family, as a letter written February 6 by Sgt. Jones stated that he had been transferred to the Air Corps and was enjoying his work better than ever before. He was injured in action last November in Belgium, and it was not known here whether he died of an illness or whether his injuries were more sever than they were first thought to be. The presence at home of Pfc. Jones, stationed at Fort Ord, California, was requested by the family because of the serious illness of Mrs. Jones, suffering from the shock attending the receipt of the message, but Pfc. Jones was in a hospital there and unable to make the trip. Mrs. Jones, however, is improved. Sgt. Jones is survived by his wife, who is making her home with his parents in Ben Wheeler, another brother, Wille G. Jones of Port Arthur; and one sister, Mrs. Walter Hollowell of Palestine. He was born in Ben Wheeler and had visited in Athens frequently.
