Malakoff Farm And Business Leader Passes

Funeral services will be held for S. J. Riddlesperger, 80, of
Malakoff Thursday morning at 10 o'clock with the Reverend J. L.
Brantley, pastor of the First Baptist Chruch of that city conducting
the services.

Mr. Riddlesperger succumbed at his Malakoff home at 5:15 Wednesday
morning after an illness of several months. He had been prominent in
Henderson County business affairs for many years and only in the
last few years retired as president of the First National Bank of
Malakoff.

Stonewall Jackson Riddlesperger was born in Sebastian County,
Arkansas, in September 1862. At the close of the Civil War, when he
was two years of age, his parents moved to Louisiana and came from
that state to Smith Cunty, Texas. From that point the family moved
to Henderson County, settling in the Beck's Chapel commuity.

Mr. Riddlesperger's schooling was like that of many others of the
time, very mager and restricted to the common schools of the period.
He grew to manhood on the farm and folowed the business of farming
and stock raising until 1900 when he moved to Malakoff to make his
home.

He had been married in 1887, before going to Malakoff, to Miss
Sallie Clark, a native of Henderson Cunty. To their union seven
chidlren were born, five of whom survive.

Mr. and Mrs. Riddlesperger, though constant, well directed industry
prospered in their business of farming and stock raising and probably
would have remained residents of their farm had it not been for their
desire to give their children the better school advantages afforded
in Malakoff.

In 1918 he was associated with others in organizing the First
national Bank of Malakoff, of which institution he was made vice-
president. His health caused him to retire as president only a few
years ago.

A member of the Methodist Church, a man of outstanding character and
business ability, he had been called upon to serve hi community in
matters of the church, schools and numerous other civic enterprises.
Ever on the alert to serve the advancement of agriculture, he was
always high in the councils held for its betterment.

Survivors of the Henderson County business and farm pioneer include
his wife, five children, William Riddlesperger, Cross Roads; Miss
Bennie Riddlesperger, Mrs. Dwight Carson, Mrs. D. B. Owen. Robert
Riddlesperger, all of Malakoff; two brothers, C. A. Riddlesperger and
L. R. Riddlesperger, both of Malakoff, six grandchildren, and
nemerous other relatives.

Ballard Funeral Home has charge of all arrangements.
