Earl Spikes, a bright boy, aged 15 of the Black Jack community died this
morning, at 10 o'clock of Bright's Disease. He has been sick only about one
month and his death is quite a shock to his many friends and school mates.
He leaves two sisters and a younger brother. His parents are both dead and
he has been making his home with his Uncle, Bob Williams since his father's
death a few months ago.

Aged Chandler Citizen Dead; Burial Sunday

Funeral services for G. W. Brewer, 85, long time citizen of Chandler
were held Sunday afternoon with burial at *Rock Hill cemetery.
Dr. G. F. Moon conducted the service.

Mr. Brewer, one on the oldest citizens of the county, was a retired
farmer. He had been a resident of Chandler section for many years.
Infirmities of age resulted in his death Friday afternoon.

Survivors include four sons: J. N. and Cecil Brewer of Chandler; George
Brewer
of Brownsfield; Paul Brewer of Commanche; six daughters,
Mrs. Emily Horton of Rotan, Mrs. Lucy Bearman of Commanche,
Mrs. Sam White of Sidney, Mrs. Preston Lewis of Brownsfield,
Mrs. Ira Boyd of Chandler; one sister, Mrs. Lee Thedford of Chandler.

Dr. W. A. Ayres of Frankston Passes Away On Saturday Night

Dr. W. A. Ayres, who came to Texas 52 (1884) years ago and settled in the old Kickapoo
Indian settlement south of Frankston, died at 10:45 p. m. Saturday at the home of a
daughter, Mrs. Wallace Hardeman, in Frankston, after a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 3:30 p. m. at the Wofford cemetery, with the
Rev. Frank Gayer, Baptist minister, officiating.

Dr. Ayres practiced medicine over a wide area of Anderson and Cherokee counties
in the earlier days. He moved form Kickapoo to Frankston soon after the T. & N. O.
railroad was built through that section.

Survivors are six sons, Gus Ayres of San Antonio, Will, John, Joe and George Ayres
of Frankston, and Robert Ayres of Dallas; three daughters, Mrs. H. O. Gardner,
Mrs. Hardeman and Mrs. O. C. Spinks; one sister, Mrs. Grace Campbell of Rondo, Ark.

A large number of Athens citizens attended the funeral services.
