WATTS Obituaries

Copied from the Athens Weekly Review-January 23, 1928
The remains of Mr. Joe Watts were shipped from Borger to this place on Thursday
to be buried in the Malakoff City Cemetery. Mr. Watts was born May 10, 1870, died
January 16, 1928, age 57 years. He was reared in Lawrence County, Tennessee.
He came to Texas in 1895 and settled in Ellis County. He lived a christian life for
42 years. He was a good husband and loving father. A wife and seven children
survive, three having passed on in infancy. The children are: Mrs. Silva Hays,
Rockwall; Mrs. Iva Hallmark, LaRue; Mrs. Jewel Bonner, Borger; Mrs. Gladys
Glasgow, Athens; Miss Lillian Watts, Borger; Mr. Clint Watts, Athens; Mr. Clarence
Watts, Freeport and several grand children.

Athens-----Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Hassell and
Foster Chapel for Mattie E. Watts, 88, of Athens, who died Wednesday in an
Athens hospital after a long illness.
Burial will be in the Malakoff City Cemetery.
Mrs. Watts was born in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee and had lived in Athens for 49 years.
Survivors are two sons, Clint Watts of Athens and Clarence Watts of Clute; four
daughters, Iva Hallmark of LaRue, Mrs. Jewel Martin of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs.
Lillian Glasgow and Mrs. Gladys Glasgow of Athens; 23 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

ATHENS -- Funeral services for Clint Lonzo Watts, 79, of Athens, are set for 2 p.m.
Wednesday in the Central Baptist Church here with the Rev. Grover Bishop and the
Rev. Jim Ray officiating.
Burial will be in the Malakoff City Cemetery under the direction of Foster-Brown
Funeral Home of Athens.
Mr. Watts died Monday afternoon after a long illness.
He was born in Lawrenceburg , Tennessee but had lived here 50 years and was a
charter member of the Central Baptist Church. Mr. Watts was a World War I veteran
and a member of the American Legion and VFW. He was a retired carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lela Watts of Athens; three sons, Ray Watts of Arlington
and Alton Watts and Carl Watts , both of Hamlin; two daughters, Mrs. Jean Barfield of
Fort worth and Mrs. Ruth Fulton of Mesquite.; one brother Clarence Watts of Freeport;
four sisters, Mrs. Jewel Harris of Oceanside, Calif., Mrs. Iva Hallmark of LaRue; Mrs. Lillian
Fancher and Gladys Glasgow, both of Athens; and eight grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be W.G.Darden, Guy Landis, E.W. Barron, Norman Anderson, Hubert Boyd
and Fate Sherrill.
Members of the American Legion will be honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Watts rites set for Monday
Funeral services for Lela Clara Watts, 79, Athens, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the
Central Baptist Church in Athens.
Burial will be in the Malakoff City Cemetery under the direction of Foster-Brown Funeral
Home of Athens.
Mrs. Watts died at 8:15 p.m. Friday in a local hospital after an extended illness.
Mrs. Watts was a life long resident of the Henderson County area. She was born March
24, 1897, and was the daughter of Robert Allan and Mary Stone and was the widow of the
late Clint L. Watts who died in 1974. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church of Athens.
She is survived by three sons; Ray Watts, Grand Prairie; Alton Watts of Hamlin and Carl Watts of
Breckenridge. Two daughters, Mrs. Jean Barfield of Fort Worth; Mrs. Ruth Fulton, Mesquite; nine
grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
