Location:
going north,
1.7 miles north of the caution light in Latexo, turn
right on dirt road - go 2.1 miles. Cemetery is at
the curve of the road that loops around 3 sides of the
location.
PARKER REUNION
-
the descendents of Elder John
Parker, particularly those of his son Daniel Parker,
hold a Parker Reunion annually each July in Mexia, TX.
Houston County has many descendents from and connected
to the families.
2006 Parker Reunion - July 21-23, 2006, Fort Parker
State Park
Refuge Cemetery Memorial is held the first Sunday in May of each
year. Refuge is located east of Grapeland approximately 4 1/2
miles. Services begin at the tabernacle at 11 o'clock,
followed by dinner on the grounds. The cemetery has a Texas
Historical Marker and the area was the site of a church, a school
and Fort Brown, a compound for protection from the Indians that
roamed San Pedro Creek in the early 1800's. Donations for
upkeep of the cemetery may be sent to LaWanda Pennington, Treasurer,
at 512 Selkirk St., Grapeland, Texas 75844, with checks made
to the Refuge Cemetery Association.
