Prairie Springs Cemetery

Surveyed 2007 by Carole Mills Castleberry, Debbie Blanton McCoy and Doug Rauch

The map grids for the Prairie Springs Cemetery are based loosely for mapping purpose on a grave size of 5'x10'. Each of the section map grids ( A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 ) are drawn with each graph square representing a measurement of 5'x5'. The map grid of all sections combined is drawn by eye and is not to the same scale.

Use of the map grids and coordinate Row, Section, and Plot numbers as listed in the canvass report will help to locate a single grave as well as any surrounding graves. Unmarked graves and graves with markers of any type are depicted in the map grids. All graves we were able to identify are listed in the canvass report. Prairie Springs is an old cemetery without perfect alignments but use of the sectional grid maps and the canvass report should enable you to locate any grave listed within a 5' radius. We have found many unmarked graves but the advance of technology may facilitate future findings in this effort.

Thanks are due to Debbie Blanton McCoy and Doug Rauch for their hard work in completion of this task as well as all the officers and members of the Prairie Springs Cemetery Association for the maintenance of this peaceful and unique pioneer cemetery. A good deal of credit belongs to Rev. and Mrs. Gordon Miltenberger for the 1969 canvass. Comparison of information from that report with our current findings allowed us to note some "lost "graves.
