Mrs. Compton, 90 dies at Loraine

Mrs. Amanda Compton, age 90, died at 6:30 P.M. in Rowland Nursing Home at Loraine.
She had been a resident of Mitchell County since 1905 and was the mother of six daughters and four sons; grandmother of 91 descendants.
Born October 19, 1879 in Buchanan, Georgia, she was married to Sidney A. Compton in Alabama, August 9, 1897. The couple moved to Mitchell County 63 years ago. Mr. Compton died in 1947.
Mrs. Compton was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.
Funeral services were at 2 P.M. in the First Baptist Church of Loraine on Wednesday with the pastor, Rev. Clarence Minto, assisted by Rev. Alta Hardin, of Carbon officiating.
Burial was in the Loraine Cemetery with Kiker & Son Funeral Home in charge.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
Surviving are her sons, Sidney A. Compton, Jr., of Colorado City, Eulis B. Compton of Loraine, Robert Euel Compton of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Jesse Woodrow Compton of Hankamer, Texas; six daughters, Mrs. Mae McAdams of Loraine, Mrs. Treva Scown of Monahans, Mrs. Beulah Boyd of Clifton, Mrs. Vera Sikes of Clifton, Mrs. Era Mayberry of Midland and Helen Boyce of Midland.
