Mrs. Mildred Free, age 89, died on April 4, 2008 at her residence. Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Paul Smith officiating. Visitation was held on Saturday, April 5, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 8: p. m. at the funeral home. Burial was in the Colorado City Cemetery under the direction of Kiker Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Free was born a twin on July 16, 1918 in Fannin County to George William and Omealia Lawson Tickle.
She resided in Colorado City since 1929 and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Mildred married Alton A. "Coon" Free on December 24, 1936 who preceded her in death. She worked for J.C. Penney for 20 years and for Ed Thrift for 14 years prior to owning her own dress shop "Free's Friendly Shop" for 26 years. Mildred was a member of B & P W Club and American Cancer Society.
She leaves behind her daughter, Freddie Ogle of Odessa; son, Don Ray Free of Colorado City; ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Free was preceded in death by her parents; son, Paul Dee Free, sister, Rae Fortenberry, and her twin brother at birth.
