Elsie Holmes Hairston

MIDLAND- Elsie (Holmes) Hairston, 92, a longtime resident of China Grove, died Monday in a Midland care center. Funeral services for Mrs. Hairston will be at 2pm Thursday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Chapel with Mr. Roy Rosson, minister of the Dunn Church of Christ, officiating.

Mrs. Hairston was born on December 8, 1917 in Mason County, Texas to the late Tom and Bessie Wood Holmes. She grew up in the Dunn Community and was a lifelong member of the Dunn Church of Christ.

She was married to William M "Bill" Hairston on August 16, 1939 in Dunn. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2008. They were married for 69 years and lived in the China Grove community.
Mrs. Hairston is survived by one daughter, Linda Ingle of Midland; one son Don Hairston and wife, Karen of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Jon Ingle and wife Ronda of Lubbock; Rob Ingle and wife Angie of Midland; Jennifer Hairston of Dallas, Blair Hairston Cornett and husband Ben of Gainesville, FL; and three great grandchildren, Turner and Paige Ingle of Midland and Benjamin "Cole" Cornett, Jr. of Gainesville, FL. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded by both parents, one sister, Bertha Cotton; three brothers, Carl, Mark and Hilmer Holmes and one son-in-law, Sam Ingle.

Friends may contribute to the Dunn Cemetery Association, Hospice of Midland or the Manor Park Retirement Center of Midland.
