Kenneth F. Key
COLORADO CITY RECORD

AUSTIN – Kenneth F. Key, age 59, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010, after a sudden illness. Graveside services were held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, at Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery in Pflugerville.

Ken was born November 12, 1950, in Colorado City to Roy and Pat Key. He was preceded in death by a son, Jody and his father, Roy. Ken graduated from Colorado High School in 1969 where he played football and baseball. He attended Angelo State University for one year and returned to Colorado City as a radio announcer for KVMC. He moved to Odessa in 1975 and worked for Hughes Tool Co. where he was salesman of the year for two years. He opened his own oilfield-related business with his brother, Bill, in the early 1980s. After closing the business, he moved to Austin where he worked in car sales for the past 25 years.

Ken was a devoted and very proud father. Throughout his son Kenny’s school years, he never missed a ball game from t-ball through high school, often coaching many of those years. He had a very close and special relationship with his daughter, Melony, who was the apple of his eye. He was currently working on restoring a 1966 Mustang for his youngest son, Kody. His favorite pastimes were fishing, working on his yard and supporting his favorite teams, the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys, during football season. He had his own unique sense of humor and loved teasing and playing jokes on everyone he knew.

He is survived by his mother, Pat of Colorado City; brother, Bill and wife, Billie of Colorado City; sons, Kody of the home, and Kenny and wife, Brenda of Round Rock; daughter, Melony and husband, Ken of Round Rock; and grandchildren, Kylie and Major Key and Joshua, Nicole and Jody Moncebaiz, all of Round Rock.
