Mathis Ranch
"Uncle Cap" Fred Watson is depicted with one of the many historical markers he has helped validate with the Texas Historical Commission for Mathis TX and the County of San Patricio.
This particular marker, located on CR 15 at the Cenizo Hill Cemetery in Mathis TX, commemorates the Thomas H. Mathis Ranch. Nearby CR 629 was part of the old Spanish Trail which led to the Ranch headquarters.
Mr. Watson was a pilot in WWII and a local descendent of Thomas Henry Mathis. Mr. Mathis founded the Henry Bend Ranch on the bend of the Nueces River--better known as the Mathis Ranch, in 1871.
