Harris, Boase, Betheney Cemetery
Home

Harris Cemetery is located in the far Northcentral Titus County near to and northwest of the Community of Sugar Hill (Wilkerson). It is named for the Harris family, who have the only two monuments that remain to mark the cemetery. A few stones and depression are evidence of other graves, and it is said to be quite a large cemetery with as many as 250 people buried there. This cemetery is also called Boase after an early settler in the area, and also Betheney after the name of a small Baptist Church that was nearby, but long since removed. A residence lies about 75 feet from the two monuments.

To reach the Harris Cemetery from the Titus County courthouse, take Jefferson Street north for 1.4 miles to the intersection with the Interstate 30 access road (Burton Road). Turn right (East) onto Burton Road and proceed 0.5 mile to the intersection of FM 1402 (Harts Bluff Road). Turn left (North) onto FM 1402 for 12.4 miles to the intersection of FM 71. Turn right (East) onto FM 71 and then, almost an immediate left (North) onto County Road (CR) NW 47 (CR 3920). This county road will then intersect CR NW 52 (CR 1915) after 0.9 mile. At CR 1915 turn left (West). The Harris cemetery will be 0.3 mile from that intersection and about 75 yards on the left (south). The coordinates are 33o 21.965'N 094o57.307'W.
