Sneed Cemetery
Home

Sneed cemetery is located in the Southeast section of Titus on a tract of land in the South part of the George Clapham Survey once owned by Clarence Spann. A deed dated February 25, 1877 was given by H. T. Rhea and wife, Sarah to the trustees of the Christian Church for the purpose of building a Christian meeting house and for church and school purposes. Evidently, the land was also used for burial purposes. History provides that the Center Grove Church of Christ was established there, but aroud that time the church split. One faction went East and established the present Center Grove Church and the other faction went west and established the Center Point Church. After this split, the cemetery was abandoned. The families of Sneed, Gaggers, Frizzell and others are possibly buried at this cemetery, and at this time there is only on monument and which is at the grave of two children of T. R & S. F. Gaggers and two native stones. The monument is found atop a hill in open pasture and unprotected in any way. Tree limbs fall on the monument but underbrush seems to be controlled.

To reach the Sneed Cemetery from the Titus County court house, take Madison Street south for 0.3 mile to the intersection with Ferguson Road (US 271). Turn left onto Ferguson Road and continue Southeast (the road becomes Texas Highway 49). Proceed 5.5 miles to the intersection from the left of FM 1000. Turn left onto FM 1000 and continue for 0.9 mile to the intersection from the left of County Road (CR) 4260 (CR SE17). Turn left onto CR 4260 and proceed 0.3 mile. The cemetery lies about 150 yards on the right in a pasture. Coordinates: 33o07.937'N 094o52.274'W
