James & Matilda lived in Talledega Co., Al. in 1855. They came to Van Zandt Co., Tx..in 1892. He was a Baptist and was a farmer. He was supposed to have 16 children according to Cora, his grand daughter. James was a Mason in Talladega Al. and transfered to Van Zandt Co., Tx. . He was married to Edith Matilda Walsh in Talledega Co., Al. Volume B, Page 28...and Avvie Connell in Calhoun Co., Al. . James came to Texas in 1892. In the census of 1910, He was living in Van Zandt Co., Tx., with his Daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Tarlton P. Music. He died there and is buried in New Harmony Cem. in Van Zandt Co., Tx. . Their known children were: Elbert Brown; Helen Elizabeth (Ellen) Brown; William J. Brown; Sarah Bernetta "Nettie" Brown; Ida May Brown; Charles Brown; Anna N. Brown; John Hester Brown; Annie R. Brown; Mary Ella Brown; & James Brown.
