LUCY WADE

Born Dec. 15, 1840 - Died Jan. 16, 1880

Lucy Wade was the daughter of George Boxley and Elizabeth Carter Wade. She was their second child and lived at home until her death. She never married as far as I can find out. Family records had Lucy's birth as Dec. 15, 1840 and her death Jan. 16, 1880. Lucy was JaneBradberry Wade's step-daughter. Lucy was found in the 1840 and 1850 Tishamingo Co., Miss. census records. (The county later divided into 3 parts, one of them being Alcorn Co., Miss.)

Timeline: 1840, Tishamingo Co. census, Lucy and Jane Ann are listed as 2 females under 5 years. There is also in the household, 1 male 20 to 30 and one female 20 to 30. This would be George and Elizabeth. In the 1840 Tishamingo co. Miss. census, George, Elizabeth, Jane Ann and Lucy were living next door to Dorothea Carter, who was the second wife of Elizabeth's father, David Carter. Two doors down from Dorothea was Soloman Carter, Elizabeth's brother.

There was also in the household, a laborer named Jacob Jones age 25. (He later married Jane Ann)

1870 Van Zandt Co., Texas census George B. Wade, age 60, Lucy age 27, Allen age 26, John age 24, William age 21, Nancy age 17, and Edward age 15. (The mother, Elizabeth had died in 1862)

Wade, age 73, head of household, Jane, wife, age 50, Malissa Brazile, age 14, (Malissa died 2 years later and is buried beside her mother, Jane), John Kuykendall, age 5, (This was a grandson of Jane. His mother, a daughter of Jane, had died in childbirth), A laborer, Ed Carl, age 18 was also living in the household. Jacob Jones and wife, Jane Ann, sister of Lucy, and four children were living next door. Lucy had died before the census was taken in 1880.

The rock is very small, probably 6 or 8 inches across. Here are two pictures showing the location in the Wade row at the cemetery. The small rock at the left of the tombstone is for Lucy. It needs moving over just a bit to the left to match the footstone.

The "Wade" row with the stone for Lucy. Notice the gap between the graves which is the burial place for Lucy.
