MARTHA JANE MEEKS CARTER

Born Feb. 20, 1822 -- Died between 1880 & 1900

Martha Jane Meeks Carter was born Feb. 20, 1822 in Davidson County, Tennessee, the daughter of John Meeks and Sarah Blackwell. Her death date is not readable on the tombstone. Between 1840 and 1843 in Tishomingo County, Mississippi, she married John Pate Carter, the son of Solomon Carter and Winnifred Pate. Martha and John Carter moved to Van Zandt County about 1851.

They had 9 children:
Ava Jane Carter, born 1844
Sarah Ann Carter, born 1846
William Carter, born 1850
Susan Ann Carter, born 1851
Winnifred Carter born 1853
John Meeks Carter, born 1855
Martha Carter, born 1857
and James Payton Carter born before June 1, 1860.
