First Assembly of God Church
110 N. Erwin Street
Athens, Texas
September 1965

The Rev. James W. Thomison is the new pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Athens. He came here in June of this year. The history of the Athens First Assembly of God Church dates back to October of 1932, when the church was established in an upstairs hall in the old Richardson Building. The church continued to meet there for a few years, and then moved to a new location. The new church building was constructed at 610 W. Larkin St., where the church met until aobut 1943, the year the present site at 110 N. Erwin St. was selected. By 1955, the church was again expanding, and a modern two-story educational building was added to the original Erwin St. building. The church took on a new look in 1962 when the main sanctuary was completely rebuilt and air conditioning was added. Church officers include Paul Hampton, Sunday School superintendent, L.D. Richardson, assistant superintendent, and Mrs. L.D. Richardson, Sunday School secretary. Mrs. Paul Hampton serves as church secretary. Members of the board of deacons are Paul Hampton, Nolan Wright, Clifford Richardson, Edwin Hurta, and Carter Long,.
