Robbins Road Church of Christ

The Robbins Road Church of Christ, which began in 1958 with only 40 members, has enjoyed a steady groth during the past few years.  After holding their first worship service in an East Tyler St. residence, the church began a building program which resulted in the construction of a $10,000 building addition which was completed in October of 1964.  Located at 509 Robbins Road, the church plant now includes the original structure plus the recently added 300-seat auditorium, the classrooms, and a nursery.  Architectually described as "pie shaped,"  the new auditorium has a circular fromt and a gabled entrance with a mosiac insert of colored tile in the outside wall.  The auditorium has no windows and is air conditioned and centrally heated.  The building itself is of masonry construction with open ceiling beams and interior walls of exposed and painted masonary blocks.  Located at the point of the wedge are the pulpit stand and elevated baptistry.  The auditorium contains five sections of wedge-shaped seats.  With an eye to future needs the five classrooms are located around the circular portion at the front of the auditorium in an arrangement that allows them to be added to the auditorium proper should the need to increase seating capacity arise.  J.D. Walker, who has been with the Robbins Road church for about three and one-half years, is the minister.
