St. Paul Lutheran Church
The St. Paul Lutheran Church, was organized in Athens as a result of a desire by several local families of the Lutheran faith to attend worship services in their own community. They persuaded the Rev. Robert Fickensher, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Corsicana, to hold worship services in Athens each week. The St. Paul congregation has grown to the extent that now the pastor divides his time between the two churches. The first service were held in Athens on May 10, 1964. The congregation, which now numbers about 40, holds worship services in the Women's Club Building in Athens. Serving the church as president of the board and church treasurer is William Cope. Sunday School superintendent is Charles Wende.
