The Sheriff's Association

The Sheriffs' Association of Texas will meet in their ninth annual session at San Antonio Dec. 12, 1888. The Texas Traffic Association have agreed to grant to members and delegates attending and holding certificates a rate of one fare from any station on their lines to San Antonio and return. Tickets will be on sale Dec. 10 and 11 and good for return until Dec. 19.

Kaufman, Tex., Nov 29.–Sheriffs, look out for a man about 23 or 24 years old, six feet high, light hair, small mustache dyed black, gray or blue eyes; had on white hat with four or five cords for bands; rather slim built. Left this county Friday, Nov. 25; has an uncle living in Marshall; went in direction of Burnet, Burnet County. Arrest and wire. Robert Adams, Sheriff Kaufman County.

Kaufman, Tex., Aug. 5.–Iron gray mare, 6 years old, branded JF connected on left shoulder and hip, 15 hands high. Reward of $20 delivery of mare or information leading to recovery to Robert Adams, Sheriff Kaufman County.

Kaufman County. Kaufman, Tex., Jan 24. – Stolen on Jan. 16, two and one-half miles west of Kaufman, one brown filly, 3 years old past, about 13 hands high, no brand, some scattering white hairs, inside of tail almost white, snip on left nostril, hoof on left forefoot wrinkled caused by nail being stuck in foot. I will pay $10 reward for thief and horse and $35 for conviction of thief. B. S. Wood or Martin Haynie, sheriff Kaufman County.

 

Kaufman, Tex., Jan. 4–hold on charge of theft, Jess Wallace, 26 years old, 5 feet 8 inches high, weight 140 pounds, dark hair, large mole about center of forehead, wen(sp) on right cheek, complexion red, long, sharp nose, little stoop-shouldered, wears No.6 shoe, smooth saved, has wife and two children. Kaufman, Tex., Feb. 4.–Stolen on the night of Feb. 1 one bay roan horse, 16 hands high, 6 years old, branded on right shoulder L, small white shot in forehead, sign of gear marks. Kaufman, Tex., June 27.–The hardware store of Carlisle, Beaty and Co. was broken into at Kaufman on the night of June 25, and two pistols were stolen–one Colt's single action blue-barrel pistol, No 230317, one Colt's double action, blue-barrel pistol, No. 127300. Five dollars' reward for the pistols and $10 for thief. Bill Henderson, Sheriff Kaufman County, Tex.

Kaufman, Texas. May 30 – Virge Rutledge, Sheriff of Kaufman County, was wounded in the left thigh and foot with buckshot about 3 o'clock Wednesday while he and two deputies, Eli Howard and Cumby Norwood, were raiding a still on a farm in the Hiram community, about eighteen miles north of Kaufman.

The Sheriff was brought to Kaufman and his wounds dressed. Physicians Wednesday night said they did not consider his condition serious.
