1870 Census

We want to thank Barbara Wilkinson and Cindy Lothringer for all of their time and hard work in putting this together. They did it solely so you could be able to access this information via the Bexar County site.

In 1870, this county was heavily populated with individuals who were born in Germany and Mexico. But, you will see many ethnic groups represented as you look over the surnames. There are approximately 17,000 individuals listed.

If you are researching a nun, please refer to her last name and also search under "S" for Sister.

Please be aware that a section of the 1870 census is missing. The whole section around the Salado Creek area which was known as the Coker Community was lost or misplaced. There should be lots of names such as Cokers, Jones, Maltsbergers and many others listed; none of them are there. The U.S. National Archives have been contacted and they could not find this segment. Mr. Bob Battaglia has searched the surrounding counties to see if they were wrongly attached, but no luck. One suggestion is to go to Bexar County Cemeteries and look for Cemeteries in the Coker Community. Here you should be able to find some of those missing people.
